Buy Buffalo Week
Urban Roots enjoyed the focused attention to shopping at locally during Buy Buffalo Week.
To celebrate the week we offered a drawing to win a Garden Consultation with a Landscape Architect! Diane Salfi was the winner of the drawing. Congratulations Diane!
What Buy Buffalo Week was about…
Saturday, November 17th through Saturday, November 24th, 2007

Urban Roots Community Garden Center is a proud participant in Buy Buffalo Week, a week-long campaign to promote holiday shopping at locally-owned and community-based businesses. The campaign begins Nov. 17, the Saturday before Thanksgiving and continues through Nov. 24.
During Buy Buffalo Week, Urban Roots offers 10% off all Holiday plants and greens.
The Urban Roots staff has assembled a large selection of holiday gift items. We have fine natural products for decorating your home for the holidays, including wreaths, holly, living Christmas trees and boughs of evergreens. We have winter bulbs, poinsettias and unusual houseplants to bring color and life into your home. Visit us to find gifts, stocking stuffers and educational materials for children. Fun and practical gifts for gardeners including bird baths, bird houses, ergonomic tools, exceptional pots, weather gages and thermometers, t-shirts, wind chimes, and more.
Urban Roots will also offer special coupons toward the purchase of living Christmas trees and poinsettias. If you missed picking up a coupon at the November 14th Buy Buffalo Bash, have no fear…you can pick up a coupon at our store or at several Buffalo First retailers around town.
While you’re visiting Urban Roots during Buy Buffalo Week, be sure to enter your name and address in our drawing for a free garden consultation with Brian Dold, Associate Landscape Architect for the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy. In this capacity he is responsible for coordinating all planting projects within Buffalo’s Olmsted Park system. His duties also include organizing volunteer tree planting efforts, ordering plants and designing plans for annual garden displays, and designing and executing all restoration construction and planting projects in the Olmsted Parks. The drawing for this garden consultation, valued at over $300, will take place on the final day of Buy Buffalo Week, Saturday, November 24th at 6:45 pm.
Buffalo First, an organization founded to promote independently owned stores in Western New York which preserve diverse and sustainable communities, is the sponsor of Buy Buffalo Week. Dozens of Buffalo First member-retailers will offer holiday specials and incentives throughout this week to encourage Western New Yorkers to shop locally. We hope you’ll include Urban Roots on your list of local shopping venues.
Urban Roots’ winter hours are Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 10am – 5pm; Thursdays and Saturdays, 10am-7pm; Sundays, 11am-5pm; closed on Tuesdays.
We hope to see you and your friends at Urban Roots during Buy Buffalo Week!
About Buffalo First
Buffalo First was founded to promote locally-based businesses and encourage local purchasing to make a positive impact on the community and environment. Locally based, independent businesses have a direct interest in the well-being of the Buffalo area because they are a part of the community that they serve. These businesses have the ability to make decisions that are more socially, economically and environmentally sustainable. We call this the “triple” bottom line: people, planet and profit.
Many studies show that shopping locally keeps more money in our area versus shopping at national, big-box or chain stores. This keeps the money that goes around coming around! Local businesses create more meaningful employment relationships, decrease environmental impact and are a part of Buffalo’s unique local culture.
